About Me

Hi there!

My name is Sean Geiger (but I go by my middle name, Hunter) and I’m a recent graduate of the Master’s program in Biology from California State University, Northridge. My research was focused on characterizing lipid droplets and their associated proteins in the cyanobacterium (blue-green alga) Nostoc punctiforme.

I’ve gained extensive experience in a microbiology lab setting for over four years where I’ve mastered common lab techniques including—but not limited to—cloning, manipulation of gene expression, protein-protein interactions, and lipid purification and analysis. During my studies, I’ve also gained invaluable experience presenting my research at local, state, national, and international conferences. To see examples of my work, head to my Lab Skills page.

My overall goal as a scientist is to work alongside industry professionals as a research scientist in biotechnology, clinical microbiology, or genomics. While earning a PhD in microbiology or bioinformatics is my long term goal, I am very open to working in the private or public sectors as early as possible!

Research and personal interests include:

  • Discovering and optimizing new sources of sustainable bioenergy
  • Antibiotic and high-value molecule discovery
  • Multi-drug resistance in bacteria
  • Mechanisms of bacterial pathogenesis
  • Personalized medicine
  • Anything “-omics”
  • Home microbiology: Beer brewing, pickling, and cooking
  • Space exploration, Astrobiology
  • Hiking around Los Angeles, snowboarding, and wrestling with my chocolate lab Coco
